Clearwire Cuts 15% of Staff
Clearwire (NASDAQ: CLWR), the Kirkland, WA-based provider of wireless Internet service, said today in its quarterly earnings report that it is cutting 15 percent of its workforce, and making a “substantial reduction” in its use of contract workers, as part of a restructuring plan. The company didn’t say how many people are actually losing their jobs, although Clearwire had 3,280 employees in the U.S. heading into this year, according to its annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. If the total headcount remained stable until today, that would mean about 492 jobs are being cut. The cuts are supposed to save $100 million to $200 million in 2010, and again in the first half of 2011, according to this post from TechFlash.
