Smart Grid Demo Project Inks $89M More

9/30/10
The Department of Energy has authorized the release of $89 million in stimulus funding to the Pacific Northwest Smart Grid Demonstration Project (PNW-SGDP), a collaboration between the Bonneville Power Administration, the University of Washington, five technology partners, 11 utilities companies across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, and Battelle, which operates the Pacific Northwest National Lab, to test new smart grid technologies. This money will be combined with another $89 million in matching funds met by the PNW-SGDP demonstration team. With the full funding, the team will be able to move ahead with the five-year project, which is expected to expand existing electric infrastructure, and test new devices, software, and analytical tools at home and on the grid in 12 Pacific Northwest communities.
