Amazon Acquires Woot

6/30/10

Carrollton, TX-based deal-a-day online marketplace Woot said today it has signed an acquisition agreement with Seattle-based e-commerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN). Under the agreement, Woot said it would become an independent subsidiary of Amazon, maintaining the same level of autonomy as other subsidiary companies, such as Audible and Zappos. Financial terms weren’t disclosed, and Amazon didn’t issue a statement on the deal. Woot CEO Matt Rutledge did publish a rather comical e-mail that he sent out to the entire Woot staff regarding the deal today.
