Shoddy, shoddy report. For two 'industry stalwarts' this "report" has fractured thought process, incomplete statistical information, no references or bibliography... Did this pass some sort of review prior to "publication", or was this only done for press-release purposes? What new information does this report provide?

I agree with most of the comments here about issues holding back the development of more Seattle and Puget Sound area biotechnology companies. One other factor that the Seattle area appears to lack are organizations to promote both the industry itself, industry-industry contacts, and industry-academia contacts. While we have the WBBA here, in San Diego (which has a pretty robust biotech community) companies, scientists, and entrepreneurs can tap into the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, BioCom, Connect, the California Healthcare Institute, the Southern Californai Biomedical Council, and the San Diego Biotechnology Discussion group. These groups sponsor a number of events to bring together the local community. I think one of the reasons that Seattle lags behind San Diego and other areas is because we lack the appropriate business development alliance groups to foster the growth of the industry. There appears to be a dearth of organized, widely promoted forums in our region where people with interests in this industry can assemble to learn about new technologies, present exciting science, forge collaborations, meet business contacts, and otherwise connect with each other. One other comment: How does one get a copy of the report prepared by Tom Ranken and Jim Severson? I didn't see a link in the story above, nor does there appear to be one on the WBBA website.
