Twitter Buys BackType
Wade Roush7/5/11
BackType, creator of a system called Storm for distributed realtime data processing, said today in a blog post that it has been acquired by San Francisco-based Twitter. BackType had created a system called BackTweets that allowed publishers to monitor the marketing impact of their Twitter posts. That system has now been closed to new signups, and BackType’s founders say in the post that their new focus will be “developing tools for Twitter’s publisher partners” and implementing the Storm technology across Twitter. A 2008 alumnus of the Y Combinator venture incubator, BackType counted True Ventures and Freestyle Capital as investors. Financial details of the acquisition weren’t disclosed.
