GREE, the Japanese mobile social gaming company, said today (PDF) that it has purchased all shares in OpenFeint, the Burlingame, CA-based maker social games for iOS and Android devices such as Tiny Wings, Pocket God, and Mega Jump. GREE said it spent $104 million on the acquisition, which will make it the world’s largest social applications platform for smartphones, with more than 100 million registered users. OpenFeint founder and CEO Jason Citron said in a blog post that GREE’s investment in OpenFeint means “we are stepping on the gas pedal. The entire OpenFeint team is staying on and will continue building the platform that we launched together two years ago.”
