Active Network Preparing IPO

Bruce V. Bigelow9/2/10

The San Diego-based Active Network, a Web-based services company that provides everything from online campground reservations to registration for softball leagues and marathons, is now “quite far along in discussions with bankers,” according to a report in VentureWire. CEO Dave Alberga says the venture-backed Active Network generated $244 million in revenue last year, and bookings of $1.2 billion. The company, which was founded in 1998, tried to go public in 2004, but unfavorable market conditions prompted it to withdraw its IPO.
