San Diego’s American Technology Corp. said today that U.S. military forces have placed additional orders totaling $400,000 for its Long Range Acoustic Device, or LRAD, for use at security checkpoints in Iraq. Unlike an ordinary loudspeaker, the LRAD emits a focused sound beam, which can carry warnings or instructions beyond 500 meters.
