This is wonderful news. Having worked for Genzyme for a big part of my career, I can personally say that it is a great company to have move into the region. Oncology is a big focus for them, and having them establish a presence in one of the leading cancer research communities makes a lot of sense. Hopefully, they will grow over time, and create a lot of new jobs in Seattle.
This really fits well with the WBBA's strategy to grow life sciences in Washington. Genzyme, along with Amgen, Gilead, Phillips Ultrasound and recently Novo Nordisk, send a strong message about the viability and strength of biotech and biomedical industry in the state. I would like to see a few more "anchor" companies establish roots in Washington!
