RSA Security Suffers Cyber Atttack

3/18/11

RSA Security, a Bedford, MA-based division of EMC (NYSE: EMC), said yesterday it was the target of an “extremely sophisticated cyberattack” that resulted in digital information being extracted from RSA’s systems. At least some of the data breach is related to RSA’s SecurID two-factor authentication products, which are used widely by companies and governments. RSA said in a statement that it is working closely with authorities to investigate the attack, and with customers to strengthen their SecurID implementations. EMC acquired RSA for $2.1 billion in 2006. You can read more analysis of the security breach in the New York Times, CNET, and Wired News.
