Needham, MA-based Prelert, a maker of IT analysis and incident management software, announced it has raised $3.75 million in Series A financing from Fairhaven Capital Partners and Sierra Ventures. Prelert says its software helps companies identify the cause of IT service disruptions (for things like Web applications) much faster than existing approaches. The technology uses pattern detection algorithms, originally developed for DNA sequencing of the human genome and for speech recognition in national security applications. Prelert started in 2008 out of Promethyan Labs, and is led by founders Mark Jaffe and Steve Dodson.
