Beacon Power, National Grid Ink Deal

Wade Roush 1/26/09

Beacon Power (NASDAQ: BCON), a Tyngsboro, MA, company developing flywheel-based energy storage systems that help electrical grid operators smooth out the supply of power, announced today that it has signed an information-sharing agreement with National Grid (NYSE: NGG), the UK-based utility that supplies power to much of the Northeastern United States. Under the agreement, National Grid will have access to technical information that could help it decide whether to deploy Beacon Power’s flywheel systems to supplement its own power sources and offset variations in the power available from wind farms.
