About a month ago, I started out with an eye problem, the eye doctor said that the only way she could explain it to me is cells under my eyelids were clogged, causing a tiny bowling ball effect that was hurting my eye.. A few days afterwords, I broke out into a full blown bad cold, sneezing continuous, etc.. This went on for a few weeks. One morning I woke up and as I raised my head, my head actually tossed back out of control.. to the right and backwards. Total dizziness and vomitting, all uncontolable. As I tried to make it to the bathroom, I fell to the floor, again my head tossing to the right and back.. We were scared to death, almost like watching the exercist movie, only I was the one in it! I was taken to the hospital, stayed for three days and getting better each day but still have a ringing in my one ear. I am going to therapy and seeing if it is an inner ear imbalance. I have an appointment on Friday for an ear specialist. What the heck kind of flu is this that I had? I've never heard of anything that actully caused your head to be thrown around like this! Can someone explain this further to me? It sounds nuts! but it's true and I want to know what is going on. If these flus are coming from Asia then why in the world is this country allowing so much importing from there?

[...] As reported by our friends at the All Points Blog Sermo FluMonitor is a sort of step from Google Flu Tracker which uses end-user queries about the flu to map where the disease is prevalent. The Sermo solution uses data uploaded by 100,000 doctors to do roughly the same thing - only with far more detail on the patient. Unlike Google's solution, the doctor uploaded data is aggregated to the ZIP Code level and presented in near-real time. Among the data available to members: -- Number of new cases in the last seven days and the increase over the prior week -- Number of cases confirmed with Rapid-Flu and percentage increase over the prior week -- Age range of patients -- Top presenting symptoms The Cambridge, Mass-based company thinks the model could be used for other diseases. - press release - via Xconomy [...]
