Genzyme, Medicines for Malaria Venture Form Partnership to Develop New Treatments

Cambridge, MA-based Genzyme (NASDAQ: GENZ) and Medicines for Malaria Venture, a nonprofit organization, said today they have formed a malaria drug collaboration with India-based Advinus Therapeutics. The organizations will work to develop new treatments for pregnant women and infants who are most threatened by the infection. The partners, which includes the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, will work to identify compounds active against key enzymes that help the malaria parasite survive.
