"...Having the grid work for more than four hours..." ???

I practically live and work in SL. About 10 hours a day, each day, 7 days a week...yes, I do get crashes every once in a while, but not to the extent that, as you describe it, they render it "unusable" (and I live in Asia btw, far, far away from SFO). From my chair I'd say that, apart from LL's own problems, you have an ISP/local network issue yourself that needs to be looked over. We had some issues like that before and turned out to be a router issue, so ever since we got that fixed everything has been more or less good.

And oh, I happen to like immobile vehicles--they're safer than the moving ones...hihihi j/k

You know what would be even cooler than a dynamic sky? Having the grid work for more than four hours ^_^ Fix what you have before adding more garbage.

Ladies and Gentleman, Observe this wonderous car - the next evolutionary leep in vehicle modifications - it has a fish tank, a pool table, a full bar, ten floors, a hotel, and a unbelievable set of lights... Pay no mind to broken engine or transmission - these are minor details...

Thats my rant!

I don't think that amounth of control people have in windlight will be a problem. Right now you have local day/night time control as well, and when you change it you are perfectly aware you are viewing things different from intended. I'm sure there will be button with windlight as well that just reverts you back to the intended setting.

The problem that was apparent with the Windlight Beta is that users would have so much control over how things looked that what people built could look worse to people. Voice is another mixed issue.

And where Linden Lab continues to strive forward in technology, it does seem to consistently trip on its own shoelaces within technological and policy spheres.
