And don't overlook Avid's M-Audio which is an important player in the professional audio and dovetails with their video offerings.

There is a big problem of perspective in this article, in my opinion

First, the consumer video products by Pinnacle runs exclusively on Windows and Apple's offering are on the Mac, which has a much smaller market share than Windows. So for users to switch, they would have to buy a completely new system and video hardware, and give up their current assert and current Windows applications, and learn a new operating system. It's a major, and unlikely investment for consumers. Most video consumers will always be on the Windows platform.

If you're not mentioning Adobe, you're missing completely the picture here. Apple has a large part of the mind share , but NOT of the actual market share.

For professionals, Apple sells software - only solutions, and provides no pro support or services. Avid is in the hardware business for Video and Audio. This is its main business and its main source of revenues. A video production cannot be done without terabyte RAID arrays and strong asset management systems.

So this article only makes sense from the perspective of prosumer who use software-only solutions, and the prosumer who is an Apple Mac user. This isn't at all the market that Avid is operating in, and it isn't where the big money is.

The money is in the multi-milion dollar deals with companies like NBC.

What you need to do now is go back to read the financial reports and see exactly where the revenues and profits of Avid are coming from.
