Charles J. Johnson

Charles J. Johnson is Chair of the Business & Technology Practice Group at Choate, Hall & Stewart, LLP, a Boston law firm.

Mr. Johnson represents a broad range of start-up to publicly held companies on securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, complex commercial transactions and strategic business planning. He also represents venture capital firms in their portfolio investments. He regularly advises senior executives and boards of directors on corporate governance, compensation arrangements and fiduciary matters. His clients operate in fields ranging from security technologies, medical device and telecommunications to information technology, government contractors and professional service firms.

Mr. Johnson frequently speaks at national business conferences and continuing legal education programs and has published numerous articles on legal and business issues affecting growth companies. Most recently, he has appeared before the Dow Jones Venture One Program on Negotiating with Global Medical Technology Companies, the Association of University Technology Managers, US-Canada Business Council, Innovation Norway, Florida Technology Conference, National Biometrics Institute and the Insight Program on Drafting Major Business Agreements. Mr. Johnson is often a guest lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management and Babson College and is active in the firm's relationship with the MIT Entrepreneurship Center. Mr. Johnson is named as one of the leading East Coast M&A lawyers in the Legal 500.

Mr. Johnson is chairman of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council's IGNITE Program, and is a member of the American, Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations. He is a graduate of Trinity College and the University of Virginia School of Law.
